Description
In this month's issue, Sh’ma addresses the years beyond the seminary—out in the field, how rabbis face the challenges of the rabbinate. The issue includes a Roundtable with the heads of several seminaries; a conversation with artists, writers, and a coach about creative expression and Jewish life; reflections from several rabbis about how they’ve worked to remain lively and learned in an ever-changing and always absorbing field. The essays in the issue also highlight an array of programs that have emerged over recent years that encourage rabbis toward self-care, nourish rabbis intellectually and spiritually, develop their executive leadership roles, offer mentorship and suggest ways to pattern lifelong learning through a burgeoning field of continuing education programs, offered through a variety of modalities including retreats, online learning, and local and national workshops. As the contemporary rabbinate changes — and for that matter, as communities change and engage rabbis in new ways — we know that seminaries and rabbinical organizations must be agile enough to retool their training programs.
